Angela Dean

I am Angela, a PhD student in the Division of Nutritional Sciences. I love anything and everything metabolism, which is why studying the liver in the Anakk lab was a perfect fit! I started conducting research during my BS degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Akron looking at ghrelin and catalase in multiple fish species. I went on to obtain a MS degree in Biological Sciences from Idaho State University, where I studied biomarkers of glucose homeostasis in rainbow trout. After my MS, I was a research technician for about 5 years studying molecular mechanisms in a variety of cancers. I started my PhD in the Anakk lab in 2019. My projects focus on how the nuclear receptors, farnesoid X receptor (FXR) and small heterodimer partner (SHP) play a role in liver metabolism and how dysregulation can lead to cancer. I am also working on how the enterohepatic axis plays a role in liver cancer development. In my free time, I like to hang out with my family and exercise!
