Biography

Kyle Mackay is a masters student in the department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at UIUC and is co-advised by Professors Harley Johnson and Jonathan Freund. He is currently working on an atomic-scale Monte Carlo framework to study reactions on surfaces. This framework is being used to calculate the rate of recombination of the H radical on silica surfaces with the intention of implementation as a reactive boundary condition in continuum-scale problems.  Kyle is from Anaheim, California. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Utah State University with a minor in mathematics. As an undergraduate, he studied heat transfer in fluid flows and the design of heat sink devices. He has also performed research on shocks in plasma mixtures over the course of two internships at LLNL.
