Situation Awareness in ICU of the Future
Goals:
- Reduced medical errors and improved ICU safety and effectiveness
- Reduced mental overload and improved team member coordination
We use cardiac arrest to demonstrate how ICU shared and role-based situation awareness improves the efficiency and safety despite high uncertainty of diagnosis and treatments and difficulties of synchronizing individual action to workflow.
We use integrated workflow and display management with Medical Device Plug and Play (MDPnP) to move from reliance on human memory, verbal communication and notes and disparate display to a real-time integrated workflow-driven display, action coordination, and diagnosis(treatment) patient response feedback system.
