Role In The Project – Kate

Image

Hello all!

My name is Kate, and unlike my peers, I am a Crop Science major with a concentration in Plant Bio-technologies and Molecular Biology. I am super excited to be able to come to Puerto Rico and lend my new perspective to the group. Since I am not an engineering student, I feel like a big part of my role in the project is to be able to lend the group my knowledge and experience with many different types of crops and explain there effects on the environment. I hope to also learn a lot from my peers about engineering and the science behind it.

Lia~ Test Post

Hi, I am Lia. I am a freshman majoring in agricultural and biological engineering. I am glad to be part of the ABE 199 class and excited to be here in Puerto Rico experiencing the richness of the ecosystem. I hope to see myself fully involved in the class and get to learn as much as can from the trip. I am pretty adaptive and international. I can contribute my ideas whenever it is needed for the project. If the poster booth needs to present some models and posters, I can help with the design and making process. Looking forward to many days in Puerto Rico!IMG_9529

Chelsea Peterson Test Post: My Role

Hola, mi nombre es Chelsea! I am a freshman in Agricultural and BiolCPABE199picogical Engineering, and I am excited to be on a study tour in Puerto Rico! My main contribution to the project will be finding research to support the information that we are sharing with our poster booth. Our poster booth’s effectiveness depends on what our audience can learn and understand, so I will help organize the information in a logical, understandable order and make sure that our posters and supporting materials reflect the conversation that we will be having.

O’Neill, Robert; Test Post

As I embark on my journey to Puerto Rico, I have many potential goals and roles in mind. As I think more and more about my effect on the group, I have decided that I would do fairly well at assisting the overall flow and efficiency of the group as a whole. I would do this by watching after the overall progress of the group and trying to make sure that all members stay balanced. In addition, I will attempt to stay aware of our environment and make sure our team acts accordingly. Hopefully, this will make for a more effective and concise trip, from all aspects.morttttttttttt

Mike Romano’s Role for the Project

My name is Mike Romano and I’m an Agricultural and Biological Engineering student at the University of Illinois. My classmates and I are currently studying agricultural systems on the island of Puerto Rico, particularly in the sugarcane industry. I feel that my role in the project is to develop items to enhance our presentation and display. I will do this by documenting our trip and studies using images and video from my GoPro camera, as well as helping develop our poster and hands on activity and experience for our presentation and guests.Michael Romano

Our Lab Group

My name is Sergej Radovanovic and I am a freshman in Agricultural and Biological Engineering. I hope my role in the group is one of a team player and an open learner. I want to be able to absorb the experience around me and share it with my partners as well as my friends and family back home. I want to get the full experience of the culture while learning about the ecosystems and their sustainability. Currently we are staying at the Fajardo Inn in San Juan and hoping to start our journey off strong. fajardo

Blake Mrozek Test Post: Role in Group

I believe my role in this group is to brainstorm potential problems that may come our way over the course of this project, as well as come up with ways to solve said problems. One example of this is when we discussed building a runoff diorama/model for people to interact with. Upon discovering that it cost somewhere around $300, I, along with my group members, came up with the idea of 3D modeling a comparable product, with our time being spent instead of our limited budget.duomo

Brady – Test Post – Role in Group

What’s up everyone, I am Brady and this my first post! I am a member of a group of students traveling in Puerto Rico for a class project. Enjoy!

As a member of this group for our trip to Puerto Rico I am going to multi-task and be flexible with whatever is best for the group. Whether it is researching, putting together the poster board or gathering and collecting any data.  We have not decided a topic yet but, I will contribute my opinion on the topic.  I feel that I am well rounded with my skills and easy to work with in order to create the best project possible.  Also, I have brought a camera with me so I will use this in order to help take pictures that are relevant to the project and poster topic we choose. I am excited to begin working on the project here in Puerto Rico and get involved in everything that can make this project successful.IMG_3646

Project Role

Hi, my name is Austin Green and I am a freshman in Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Illinois.

In this project I think that my role in this project is both a student and a teacher. As a student I will be learning while on the trip, taking in as much information as possible to share during the poster presentation. As a teacher I will communicate both my ideas and information to my classmates and to open house attendees. I will help to make our open house booth a success by contributing my talents and ideas.GREEN_AUSTIN_PHOTO

ABE 199: We are in business!

Let me use this post to welcome you and the students in ABE 199, Fall 2015, Sustainable Biosystems International to Puerto Rico!

I am very much looking forward to receiving a phenomenal group of first-year students to Puerto Rico  in a couple of days. We have some excellent tours set up. I have purchased a Go-Pro (R) camera—and a bunch of accessories—and I cannot wait to see how we document our trip. The students of ABE 199 will be guest authors for this blog over the next couple of weeks as they document the occurrences of this study tour.

I’d also like to thank the Departamento de Ingeniería Agrícola, at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez, specifically  Professors Pérez-Alegría and Mathankar, for generously hosting us here during our visit. This will be the third time Dr. Pérez-Alegría and I collaborate to host students from Illinois in Puerto Rico.

Below you’ll see the phenomenal our draft agenda for the trip. It should be great.

If anyone has any questions about Puerto Rico please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.

Come to see the results of this trip during Explore ACES and Engineering Open House.
