The reduction of perchlorate using biocatalysts: perchlorate reductase and chlorite dismutase.

My work focuses on understanding the application of biocatalysts, such as Perchlorate Reductase and Chlorite Dismutase, as treatment technologies for drinking water.

Perchlorate Reductase catalyzes the reduction of perchlorate through the transfer of 4 external electrons. Chlorite Dismutase catalyzes an internal transfer of 4 electrons resulting in the formation of innocuous chloride and oxygen.
