Campus Safety

Emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time. It’s important to prepare for a situation in which your safety could depend on your ability to react quickly. The links below contain floor plans that you should familiarize yourself with in order to identify different ways to respond to an emergency in a building that you may spend time in as part of this class.

If there’s ever a fire alarm or something like that, you’ll know how to get out and you’ll be able to help others get out. In case of severe weather, you’ll need to go to a low-level in the middle of the building, away from windows. And if there’s ever someone trying to hurt you, your best option is to run out of the building. If you cannot do that safely, you’ll want to hide somewhere you can’t be seen, and to lock or barricade the door if possible and be as quiet as you can.

Don’t leave that safe area until you get an Illini-Alert confirming that it’s safe to do so. If you can’t run or hide, fight back with whatever you can get your hands on.
