Summer School Faculty Application

Dear students,

Northbrook/Glenview District 30 is a suburban K-8 district with a rich, developing partnership with the College of Education.

Each year, District 30 runs a substantial summer school program, featuring innovative courses that enrich students’ education over the long vacation.

Because of our partnership, District 30 administration is seeking College of Education applicants to be a part of this summer program.  In particular, they are looking for course instructors (likely recent graduates or advanced teacher education students), teaching assistants (any level in the program), and even volunteers.

Below is the announcement and application link from Mr. Chris Brown, the summer school director.  Although the information below reads as if most hiring will be done within District 30 faculty, I assure you that the district does plan to hire some UIUC candidates.  In the application, you will be able to indentify yourself as a University of Illinois student.

Please review the material carefully and consider applying.  Note: The application deadline is February 8, 2013.  If you have any questions, you should contact Mr. Brown directly.

Thank you!

Jay A. Mann

Director, Office of Clinical Experiences

This year’s Summer Program will be held at Maple School for five weeks starting on Monday, June 10th and ending on Friday, July 12th. There will be no summer school on Thursday, July 4th. Otherwise, summer school is 5 days per week from 8:30am-12:30pm. There are two TENTATIVE dates below to be aware of: Thursday, June 6 – Summer School Institute Half Day 8:30am-12:30pm Friday, July 6 – No Summer School Classes More information on this over the next few months.

Depending upon enrollment and teacher interest, faculty may choose to teach up to four courses with a commensurate salary.

We are particularly interested in expanding our course selection, especially in the areas of outdoor athletics, writing, or technology, and welcome any new course ideas with your application. Certain classes receive many faculty applications and it is difficult to assign them if enrollment is not sufficient. Your chances for a position increase by offering a new course.

This form serves two purposes: 1. Your application demographic information 2. Your class preference(s) including any new classes you want to propose. Criteria for selection will include: 1. Ability to instruct in the subject area 2. Years of service to District #30 3. Years of service to District #30 Summer School 4. Total years of teaching experience

The deadline for this application is Friday, February 8. Student enrollment applications will open in late March. With this time frame in mind we will notify those hired on a rolling basis starting April1. Hiring will continue as classes fill to the minimum number of students.

Thank you for your interest in our summer school program and we look forward to a great summer experience for our students!
