 Naturalist Intern – Spring 2013

Duties:

Present a wide variety of educational programs for all ages, including outdoor field trips to elementary and preschool students. Assist with operations of the Homer Lake Interpretive Center, including caring for the Center’s live reptile collection and occasional weekend activities. Occasional evening and weekend work required. Pay: Stipend of $75/week.

 Hours:

18-40 hours/week, depending on availability. Late March/Early April – end of May

 Qualifications:

We seek an enthusiastic individual with a passion for education, the outdoors, and working with people. College-level coursework in Education, Biology, Environmental Education, Horticulture or related field is desirable. Knowledge of local flora and fauna is desirable. Must have the ability to work effectively with the public, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Position is based at Homer Lake Forest Preserve.

Nature Day Camp Educator

Main Duties:

Teach Eco-Adventures summer day camps for preschoolers – 5th graders, Conduct other educational programs for youth and adults, Assist with daily operation of the Interpretive Center, Assist with special programs and events, Must be available to work occasional weekends and evenings

Qualifications:

Excellent communication skills, Experience working with children, Knowledge of area flora and fauna preferred, College-level coursework in Natural Resources, Education or related field preferred, Ability to work outdoors in all conditions

This is a part-time seasonal position (approx. 30 hours/week) available May 29 through August 2. Several positions available. The primary work location is Homer Lake Forest Preserve, with some work at Lake of the Woods.

Garden Camps Educator

Main Duties:

Teach Garden Adventures summer day camps, Conduct other educational programs for youth and adults as assigned, Must be available to work occasional weekends and evenings

Qualifications:

Excellent communication skills, Experience working with children, Knowledge of gardening preferred, College-level coursework in Natural Resources, Education or related field preferred, Ability to work outdoors in all conditions

This is a part-time seasonal position (approx. 15 hours/week) available from May 29 through August 2. The primary work location is Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve.

Campground Naturalist

Main Duties:

Develop and conduct naturalist programs at the Middle Fork River Forest Preserve campground, Must be available to work weekends and evenings

Qualifications:

Excellent communication skills, Experience working with the public, including children, Knowledge of area flora and fauna, Experience in Environmental or Outdoor Education desirable, Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Education or related field a plus but not required, Ability to work outdoors in all conditions and with minimal supervision

This is a part-time seasonal position (approx. 26 hours/week) available from mid-May through early September. The primary work location is Middle Fork River Forest Preserve.
