Astrid Ferrer
Astrid has more than 10 years of experience working with tropical aquatic fungi from Central and South America. Astrid is the overall project coordinator, and is also responsible for fungal isolation and culturing, taxonomic descriptions, and for building aquaticfungal phylogenies.
Jim Dalling
Jim’s background is in forest dynamics, plant community assembly, and plant-fungal interactions. This is his first project with aquatic fungi. He is responsible for analyses of community assembly patterns and changes in wood chemistry.
Katy Heath
Sergio Mosquera
Sergio is a Panamanian intern with a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Panama. He is working with Astrid on fungal identifications and RNA and DNA extractions. Sergio also helped get the experiment set up.
Didi Suarez
Didi is also a Panamanian biologist with an undergraduate degree from the University of Panama. Didi has a background in microbiology and bioprospecting. In addition to preparing material for screening of bioactive compounds, Didi also helps with fungal identification and with DNA extractions from wood.
Natalia Jimenez
Natalia has an undergraduate degree in biology and microbiology from the University Los Andes in Colombia and a strong interest in marine biology. Natalia is based in Panama and is helping with fungal identification and DNA extractions.
