Lt Col Sullivan

Lieutenant Colonel Shane T. Sullivan is the Commander, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 190”, University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. His detachment is responsible for recruiting, educating, training, and commissioning over 100 officer candidates to be leaders for the Air Force. He and his staff administer academic lessons, leadership exercises, and physical fitness training to all AFROTC cadets. Lt Col Sullivan also serves as the Air Force liaison to the University of Illinois Military Education Council.

Lt Col Sullivan was commissioned through Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base (AFB), Texas in 1992, as an information management officer. During his initial tour at Patrick AFB, Florida, he served as the executive officer to the 45th Mission Support Group Commander. Lt Col Sullivan was then board-selected to cross-train to the Space and Missile career field. Upon successfully completing training, he served as a missile combat crew commander, flight commander and instructor at the 90th Missile Wing, F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming. He then moved to Lackland AFB, Texas, to the Joint Information Operations Center, as a Theater Special Operations Information Operations planner. During this time, Lt Col Sullivan deployed with the 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky in support of combat operations during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. From Texas, he was assigned to the Space Warfare Center, Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, ultimately serving as the executive officer to the Center Director. Subsequently, Lt Col Sullivan was assigned to the Pentagon in the Secretary of the Air Force’s Legislative Liaison Directorate, running the Commander’s Capitol Hill Visit portfolio, scheduling and escorting Wing, Center and Numbered Air Force Commanders for visits with their respective Congressional delegations. He then moved to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, as the “Cape Commander,” Detachment 1, 45th Mission Support Group, responsible for security and logistical infrastructure maintenance of the 16,000 acre installation. Prior to his current assignment, Lt Col Sullivan served as the 460th Space Wing Chief of Safety at Buckley AFB in Denver, Colorado, managing an 8-person shop responsible for all aspects of ground, weapon and flight safety on the installation.
