STEM-Fem Alliance

“The STEM-Fem Alliance seeks to empower underrepresented women majoring in the following disciplines for graduate studies: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It seeks to raise awareness of gender issues occurring within the STEM community and those that the STEM community affects, to foster collaboration among disciplines by encouraging interdisciplinary work, and to improve the visibility of women in the sciences. It also hopes to facilitate the transition from graduate school to academia, industry, government agencies, and other professions. The STEM-Fem Alliance will accomplish this mission through various initiatives, including: talks, professional development, mentorship from early-career professionals, networking sessions, and social events. While the STEM-Fem Alliance focuses on empowering underrepresented women in STEM fields, it also intends to act as a sister support group to other specialized RSOs, including Graduate Engineers Diversifying Illinois (GEDI), Women in Science (WIS), and The Society for Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS).”
