Purpose of the Women in Astronomy Group
The Women in Astronomy group fills a need to foster networking between women in the Astronomy Department (or in some cases, other related departments), to connect those just beginning their astronomy careers with people like them that are at least further along the same path. We are a support group for women and non-binary people, and we strive to maintain a safe space environment, where members can feel free to talk about any problems they were having with the department or academia in general without having to defend the basic existence of gender biases.
In addition, we host several programs for our members — such as our Graduate-to-Undergraduate mentoring — as well as campaign for and host events for our department — such as bringing in Colloquium speakers to talk about issues faced by women in astronomy. Find out more about our programs or check out our upcoming events.
