Lenore Matthew, MSW.

Lenore Matthew is a Ph.D. student in the School of Social Work. Her practice and research focus on international development, social policy, and issues of gender equality. Her Ph.D. dissertation explores informal labor and workforce participation of low-income women in Brazil.

Previously, Lenore worked with youth development programs in Argentina and Peru, served as a program manager for a water program in Guatemala, and worked as a research analyst for an international development agency in Ireland. During her Ph.D. studies, she held a research position in Switzerland with the International Labor Organization (ILO), a branch of the United Nations. Her research at the ILO focused on the care economy and cooperative enterprises.

Lenore has published with various academic journals and co-authored a study for the United Nations Volunteer Program (UNV) in Germany. She is the recipient of several national and campus awards, including the Lemann Fellowship for Brazilian Studies, the Goodman Fellowship for International Research on Women, and the FLAS Fellowship for Foreign Language Studies.

Lenore holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois, a Master of International Relations from Dublin City University in Ireland, and a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Oregon. She speaks fluent Spanish, Portuguese, and English, and has working knowledge of French and Italian.
