The Visiting Asian Scholars Program (VASP) provides scholars from academic institutions throughout the Asia-Pacific region:

Eligibility
The Visiting Asian Scholars program is open to any self-funded scholar from East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia. We welcome scholars from the Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as the Fine Arts and Professions with disciplinary interests corresponding to faculty members in our College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Law, Graduate School of Library and Information Science,  College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, College of Fine and Applied Arts, School of Labor and Employment Relations, College of Media, and School of Social Work. At this time, VASP applicants must be faculty at an institution of higher education and hold a terminal degree in their field.

All visiting scholars must work with University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign faculty members with similar research interests. Faculty partners must be confirmed before applications will be reviewed.  All scholars must maintain Illinois residency during their stay.

 

Program Costs
All living expenses incurred are the responsibility of the Visiting Scholar. However, the program coordinator will be on hand to help you with visa processing, to find suitable housing, transportation, etc.

Program Fee:
There is a non-refundable program fee for all Visiting  Scholars that must be paid in full through the application website upon official invitation and prior to visa processing. The fee covers University academic and personnel resources needed to operate the program.

Half-Year stay (up to 6 months):   $2,000
Full-Year stay (up to 12 months):  $3,000

Visa and Mailing Fees:
Visa ($150) and mailing ($90)  fees are NOT included in the program fee, and they are the responsibility of the Visiting Scholar. These charges are also payable through the application website.

Total Program Cost:
Half-Year stay:   $2,240
Full-Year stay:   $3,240
