Pollinator Week

Did you know that roughly 75% of flowering plant species depend on the pollination activity of animals? Or that 1/3 of all foods required a pollination event? Or that pollination is estimated to contribute $200 billion annually to the global economy?

Pollinator outreach event at the Urbana farmers market.

Here at UIUC we not only study insect pollinators, but also celebrate them! In an effort to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of pollinators among the Champaign-Urbana community EGSA is committed to participating in National Pollinator Week every June! We use this as an opportunity to open a public dialogue and engage in informative and fun pollinator-related activities.

Pollinator Week Activities

  • Disseminating helpful pollinator related information at a booth at the local farmer’s market.
  • Working with local restaurants and grocery stores to highlight foods impacted by native pollinators.
  • Pollinator themed trivia nights at local restaurants.
  • Prairie tours to help people learn pollinator identification.
