Session 2 Blog Post for Feb 10

In the reading, “Science and Morals,” in which it is understood that the value of a decision to effect change can only be effectively assigned via a moral understanding brought on by collective reasoning and social discussion, the question arises, how does society merge together these two seemingly apposing realms of science and morality in the attempt to maintain the human race and its place on this earth?

I would say that, much like the reading implies, an evolution or continuum of human morality is evident throughout human history.  The formulation of the dichotomy between scientific thought and moral thought is simply that, a formulation.  I believe that this separation is temporary and as we become more aware of the unsoundness of this ignorance of the role of scientific thought in the realm of morality and visa versa, we will learn to more effectively discuss our feelings and factual findings in a collective attempt to better our experience in this universe.  Human productivity is brought on by collective action.  Our current predicament of political inactivity and therefore environmental disregard is simply an ephemeral condition brought on by the initial clashing of sentiments with facts.  Are values as a society will be more clear and compromise and action will be felt when we learn to meld these realms of society.  I believe that it is simply a matter of time before we as a society realize our ability to choose our path through collective discussion.  We are not getting anywhere as a society of single-minded agenda followers.  There is only one true agenda if we hope to enact true change as a species.  Therefore, compromise is inevitable as we realize our current condition and its hopelessness.
