The Future Forests project is a collaboration with Dr. Jerry Pritchard and Dr. Sam Dobbie at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Part of the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR), the Future Forests project brings local forests and their ecologies into Grades 5-12 classrooms. Students engage with local environmental issues related to our forests, develop climate solutions, and create digital solutions trees that will be displayed in a “digital woodland” at COP30 in Brazil in November 2025. Classrooms from the UK, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates are engaged in this project, allowing young students from across the globe to share their solutions for a sustainable future with each other and with world leaders at COP30.
We are currently working with teachers in Illinois to bring Future Forests to their students. If you are a teacher in Illinois interested in participating in this project, or want more information, please contact Sam Lindgren: salindgr@illinois.edu
