Supriya received her Ph.D from National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi, India working with Dr. Sher Ali, where she studied the role of a tyrosine kinase receptor in spermatogenesis. During her post doctoral training at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York, USA in the laboratory of Dr. Bruce Stillman, she uncovered that ORC proteins are multi-talented and play important roles throughout the cell cycle.
In 2007, Supriya started her laboratory in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, UIUC. She is interested to uncover the cues that integrate DNA replication with heterochromatin organization, chromosome segregation and cytokinesis.
Teaching interests: MCB 400 Cancer Cell biology
Mohit Mishra (Postdoc) mm1933@illinois.edu

Mohit Mishra
Mohit received a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from University of Delhi and a master’s degree in Biochemistry from University of Hyderabad, after which he worked as a research assistant for one year in Jawaharlal Nehru University before joining Jawaharlal Nehru University as a doctoral student in 2016. For his Ph.D. thesis, he primarily focused on elucidating the three-dimensional genome organization of virulent and avirulent strains of M. tuberculosis in 2022. He joined Dr Supriya Prasanth’s group as a Postdoc in 2023. He loves to write poetry and listens to music in his free time.

Neha Chetlangia
Neha Chetlangia (Graduate student) nehac4@illinois.edu
Neha received a Master’s degree from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India. In 2018 she moved to Urbana-Champaign and joined Dr. Supriya Prasanth’s lab as a graduate student. In this lab she is interested in understanding the role of ORCA in chromatin organization and RFWD3 at replication origin.
She likes traveling, hiking and cooking.

Fredy Kurniawan
Fredy Kurniawan (Graduate student) fredyk2@illinois.edu
Fredy Kurniawan received his bachelor degree in Biochemistry from University of Minnesota Twin-Cities in 2017. During
his undergraduate study, he joined Dr Hideki Aihara’s research group in 2015. Under his tutelage, he successfully crystallized the full-length Entamoeba Histolytica Cdc45 protein. In MCB, he joined Dr Supriya Prasanth’s group as a graduate student in 2019. As for his research focus, he is interested on studying the role of Orc6 during DNA replication/DNA damage response events and the role of BEND3 in heterochromatin organization. During his free time, he loves watching movies and traveling with friends.

Dazhen Liu
Dazhen Liu (Graduate student) dazhenl2@illinois.edu
Dazhen Liu received his bachelor degree in Nankai University and master degree in University of Pennsylvania, after which he worked as a lab technician in Florida State University before the admission by UIUC as a doctoral student in 2019. In this lab, his major interest is the potential role of Orc6 in DNA replication and DNA damage repair. He likes watching anime or sports, as well as listening to music.

Oraya Zinder
Oraya Zinder (Graduate student) ozinder2@illinois.edu
Oraya received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont and following that worked at The Jackson Laboratory. In 2022 she began her graduate studies and joined Dr. Supriya Prasanth’s lab as a graduate student. In this lab her work will focus on the role of ORC and other replication proteins in the context of DNA damage. In her free time she enjoys wildlife and astro-photography.

Hina Ahmad
Hina Ahmad (Graduate Student) hinaa2@illinois.edu
Hina received a master’s degree from Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore Pakistan in 2017. For a master’s thesis, she joined Dr. Tariq’s lab to decipher the epigenetic cellular memory regulation by the Polycomb group (PcG) and Trithorax group (Trx) of proteins. Following MS, she joined same lab as senior lab instructor where she taught Bachelors, Masters and PhD students lab courses, and also worked on an independent project. In 2023, she moved to Urbana-Champaign as a graduate student in the School of MCB. In Supriya Prasanth’s lab she is interested in understanding the role of BEND3 protein in chromatin regulation, interaction with polycomb and misregulation in cancer.
