Minsoo Sung

Minsoo Sung (Ph.D. Candidate)

Research Topic: Adaptive Prestressing System for Concrete Structures using Shape Memory Alloys

Minsoo earned his B.S. at Hanyang University and his M.S. at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He joined our group in 2017 and has worked in the application of an innovative localized prestressing system using Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) to concrete structures. His research interests also include the design optimization of concrete structures for lower carbon footprint under climate crisis.

Ernesto Perez Claros

Ernesto Perez Claros (Ph.D. Candidate)

Research Topic: Heat treatment of SMAs and their application as stirrups in active confinement of reinforced concrete columns

Ernesto earned his B.S. at Universidad Centroamericana “UCA” and his M.S. at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He joined our group in 2020. Currently, he is investigating the transformation temperatures of different SMAs and working on a reinforced concrete specimen that will apply active confinement using SMA rebars as transverse reinforcement. Also, in recent years, he has studied the bond behavior of textured reinforcement.

Md Abdul Hamid Mirdad (Post Doctoral Fellow)
LinkedIn
Research Topic: Residual capacity and load rating of precast prestressed concrete bridge girders with transverse cracks

Abdul earned his B.S. at Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology and his M.Eng. and Ph.D. at the University of Alberta. Before joining our group in 2021, he worked as a Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Alberta between 2020 and 2021. Currently, he is studying the residual capacity and load rating of precast prestressed concrete bridge girders with transverse cracks as well as energy-efficient prestressing technologies for mass timber using SMAs. Also, he recently conducted a bridge testing program for load rating concrete slab bridges by diagnostic and proof load tests.
