Hello all you beautiful Red Bisoneers! Welcome back to campus and a warm welcome to all our new members. My name is Michael Dzianott (he/him), and I am the President of Red Bison. I am a senior in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES), and I’m from Northbrook, a northern suburb of Chicago. I enjoy spending time outdoors, reading, and singing, and I just can’t wait to meet all of you. There’s a lot to say, so I’m going to start with the most important bit: we have an upcoming workday this Saturday, August 28th at 10 am at the Red Bison shed. We’ll be cutting invasives, piling wood, continuing to dig out our fire pit, and familiarizing new members with the area. A map to the shed can be found here. Our meeting will last one hour this week. It’s going to be hot! I encourage you to wear long pants, long sleeves, work shoes, and sunscreen to protect yourself from insects and from the sun. Bring water! We will be working hard! And if you’re planning on coming, please RSVP here. The weather’s looking good, but in the event that we get rained out, the meeting will be moved to Sunday at 10 am.
Now then, a few updates: Our plant sale is already a smashing success! We blocked out 3 days to sell our plants; we sold them all out on the first. Thank you! We still have a couple books remaining, and Kasandra still has plenty of lip balm and lip scrubs, so she will be out in front of the Union tomorrow from 1 to 3. I encourage you to drop by and pick up a little something for yourself or a friend. If you’re still interested in a plant, you should check out Plant Mode at 75 E. Chester, in Champaign. The owner is knowledgeable and generously donated all our plants so that we could use the money raised from the sale to support a minority student in the fields of environmental science, activism, or policy.
Mark your calendars: Saturday, September 18th at 10 am is our birding tour! NRES student and birder extraordinaire Colin Dobson will be leading us in a birding tour of the south Arboretum. Bring binoculars if you have them!
