Grant Year 1:

  • consultation with international & national librarians and refugee organizations
  • thought paper on “How can libraries better serve refugees and asylum seekers?”
  • 2-day collaborative learning space/meeting to explore solutions, including a 1-day public Summit (February 6, 2017)
  • project and resource website
  • report with recommendations and an action agenda

Grant Year 2:

  • 2-day collaborative learning meeting to focus on public libraries and explore next steps
  • draft public library tip sheets
  • produce refugee and asylum seeker heat map
  • ALA Summer Conference: session, Diversity Fair, and Uncommons (June 24, 2017)
  • finalize guide and begin dissemination and promotion
  • ALA Midwinter: Feedback and learning how guide has been used (February 2018)
  • Update guide as needed
  • Joint Conference of Librarians of Color (September 26-30, 2018)

We welcome input (email us or contact individual project members) on the project and information that will support our activities. We are attending conferences and holding listening sessions where we share information about the project and are available to talk.
