Department of Entomology
The Department of Entomology is part of the School of Integrative Biology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and is structured to maintain expertise and integrate across the core areas of insect ecology, physiology, systematics and evolution, genomics and molecular biology, and integrated pest management. We have long felt that effective communication is an essential component of any career in science and we provide resources and training opportunities to ensure that our graduates can share their work with both the scientific community and the general public.

Extension
University of Illinois was established not only to provide world-class education and pioneer research and discovery, but to put learning and discovery into practice and to benefit the health and wellbeing of residents and communities in every part of Illinois. Extension is the university’s statewide network of educators, faculty experts, and staff dedicated to that mission. Illinois Extension is based in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) and works with all colleges and units of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

GEMS
Genomics and Eco-evolution of Multi-scale Symbioses (GEMS) is a Biology Integration Institute funded by the National Science Foundation. We study clover and honey bees as a model of symbiosis to understand how microbes impact ecosystems. Our renewed focus on education and outreach underscores our commitment to bridging the gap between research and the broader community.

IGB
Named after Illinois professor of microbiology Carl R. Woese, who discovered the third domain of life, the mission of the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology is to advance life science research at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, meaningfully engage with the public to understand the impact of genomic research, and to stimulate bio-economic development in the state of Illinois.

MSTE
The Office for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education (MSTE), founded in 1993 by Kenneth Travers, is a unit within the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. MSTE partners with schools, research scientists, professional organizations, and national curriculum projects to increase capacity in STEM teaching and learning. MSTE helps develop and maintain BeeSpotter.org, a citizen science project where the public can share photos of bees in the Midwest, help scientists track bee populations, and learn more about the importance of native bees.

Pollinatarium
The University of Illinois Pollinatarium is the first free-standing science center in the nation devoted to flowering plants and their pollinators. Why do plants and pollinators merit such special attention? The ecological interaction between pollinators and plants is vitally important because most terrestrial life on Earth depends in one way or another on pollination for survival. Because so much depends on pollination, the UI Pollinatarium is dedicated to increasing awareness and appreciation of pollination as a remarkable ecological partnership and an essential ecosystem service.
