Mountains have been sources of wonder to mankind since our beginnings. Due to their rugged terrain, unreachable heights and often inhospitable climates; they have always given a sense of mystery. They are places that provoke deep thought and provide tranquility. Over the centuries, various theories of their creation have been introduced. The investigations of mountain-building brought geoscientists on a generational wander-path through geosynclinal theory and continental drift, which eventually led to modern plate tectonics.
