Feed the Future, the U.S. government’s food security initiative, has helped to improve market access for smallholder women farmers in Guatemala, taught agricultural techniques to Senegalese farmers, improved grain stroage practices and lowered PHL for Ghanaian farmers, and aided Bangladeshi agriculture workers to have access to research about plant pests and diseases of their crops, as well as improve rice yields. Collaboration with nine U.S. government agencies, as well as development partners, have allowed for a “whole-of-government approach” to address the themes of global hunger and food security. The Chicago Council on Global Affairs’ Global Agricultural Development Initiative has praised the U.S. government’s initiatives in addressing global food security, particularly in light of the recession and budget constraints.
