About PKL

Purpose

The Pedagogical Kinesiology Laboratory (PKL) seeks to advance scholarship through faculty and student research with the goal of supporting a favorable future for teachers and learners in physical education and activity environments, including those with lived experiences of disability. Our research agenda includes doctoral students and higher education faculty members who are responsible for the preparation of future teachers.

Mission

Faculty members and students in the PKL use a wide range of methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative techniques, in addition to broader forms of scholarship, to understand the lived experiences of teachers and learners, including those experiencing disability, in physical activity contexts. Through this work, the lab is committed to addressing issues associated with diversity, equity, and inclusion as we advocate for marginalized groups.

Vision

The PKL strives to be an inclusive space where all individuals experience a sense of belonging and acceptance. Our scholarly activities not only advance knowledge, but also bring to the forefront the voices of individuals in our local and extended communities through the research process. In this way, our research is guided by an ethical responsibility to pursue a favorable future for individuals who do and do not experience disability across varied school and post-secondary contexts.
