Observe the Pedagogy in Action

Opportunities to observe Paul Rolland Pedagogy in action will be aplenty! Concurrent with our workshop are two camps which participants will be granted access to observe, as well as a master class for advanced players.

“Young Strings on the Move!” – The Paul Rolland String Camp
Led by Artistic Director Nancy Kredel, the Paul Rolland String Camp is split into a junior camp for violin students ages 5–7, and a main camp for violin, viola and cello students ages 8–12. Workshop participants are invited to observe any time Tuesday through Friday between 8am–noon. On Saturday morning, a final performance/demonstration will be led for participants in addition to the families and friends of participating camp students.

Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM)– Junior Orchestra Technique Classes
ISYM, a comprehensive and intensive program of music instruction for student musicians, has been held on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for 70 years! (And yes, Paul Rolland was a former ISYM instructor). Running concurrent with our workshop is Junior Orchestra week, which includes five 1-hour technique classes, M–F, split by section (violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, bass), that will be taught by Rolland Workshop faculty. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to observe these classes, which will culminate with a final demonstration for participants on the last day.

Advanced Performance Master Class(es)
Details TBD.
