Workshop participants may add on an optional Conducting Workshop elective with U of I Conducting Professor Donald Schleicher. Registration for the Conducting Workshop elective is limited to 15 participants on a first come, first served basis.
Additional Fee: $100
All participants who attend the Conducting Workshop will receive a conducting ‘tune-up’ in a master class setting with the assistance of a strings/piano sextet. Each participant will have three sessions with the ensemble under the guidance of Prof. Schleicher. In addition, lectures will be provided on score study analysis, rehearsal strategies, and random topics as selected by the participants.
As a conducting professor, Mr. Schleicher’s class at Illinois is an international draw for talented young conductors. Many of his former conducting students have gone on to hold prestigious positions with organizations such as the San Francisco Symphony, the Hartford Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, Richmond Philharmonic, and the University of Chicago. As an enthusiastic advocate of public school music education, Mr. Schleicher has conducted All-State orchestras, festivals, and youth orchestras in nearly every state of the United States. The Conducting Workshop will meet for five days, M–F, 8am to 9:30, July 8–12, 2019.

*Note: Participants are asked to bring their own music that he/she would like to conduct. Please bring one each of the string parts and an extra score (full or piano-conductor) for the pianist.
