This working conference will highlight important themes of outreach across area studies while producing valuable insight into best strategies for engaging with the K-12 communities, community colleges and minority-serving Institutions, and general public. It will provide an opportunity to meet outreach professionals and learn about exemplary outreach programs offered by National Resource Centers. Professionals working in educational outreach and area studies are invited to attend and/or present. This year’s theme, “Rubber Meets the Road” highlights the importance of moving from the proposal stage to program implementation as well as engagement with local, regional, national, and international partners.

Proposed presentations should address one of the following:

  • Outreach to K-12 Communities including Teacher Education Programs and Collaborations with Colleges of Education
  • Collaborative Partnerships with Minority-Serving Institutions/Community Colleges
  • Outreach to and with Communities/General Public/Businesses/Non-Governmental Organizations

The conference will take place on November 29, a day before the 98th Annual National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) Conference in Chicago, IL, November 30 – December 2, 2018.
