Expectations for all NTS Executive Board Members:
- Demonstrate passion for Non-Traditional Species and represent the club in a professional manner
- Attend all quarterly in-person meetings
- Participation in planning and execution of Wildlife University while in term
- Providing one newsletter article or activity per quarter minimum
- Responding to messages in the exec board group chat in a timely manner
- Assisting other board members with their events when available (help bring lunch lecture food upstairs, for example) and overall contribute to a collaborative team
Core Officer Positions
President
The President is responsible for the following:
- Leading quarterly exec board meetings, guiding board members, delegating and problem solving as needed
- Attending most, if not all NTS events
- Spearheading the planning and execution of the Wildlife University Symposium, Fall Club Fair, and the Fall NTS intro meeting
- Managing NTS through the Registered Student Organization website and Publish Illinois website (in coordination with the Webmaster)
- Maintaining effective communication with members and the NTS faculty advisor
- Completing required trainings in accordance with university guidelines
- Ensuring all other board members are executing their role responsibilities
President-Elect
The President-Elect is a 2 year position. The President-Elect is responsible for the following during year one:
- Working closely in tandem with the President and performing the duties of the President in case of absence
- Attending most NTS events
- Spearheading the fall clothing sale, open house booth, and any additional fundraisers throughout the year
- Participating in planning and execution of Wildlife University while in term
The following academic year, they assume the role as President and take on the associated tasks (see President above).
Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for the following:
- Receiving all funds and maintaining an itemized account of all receipts and expenditures, keeping reports as directed
- Depositing all funds to the club’s bank account in a timely manner
- Collaborating with the President and President-Elect regarding the club’s budget and also with all chairs to allocate appropriate funds for lunch lectures, wet labs, fundraisers, etc
- Attending all executive board meetings and present budget updates at each
- Completing required trainings in accordance with university guidelines
- Participating in planning and execution of Wildlife University while in term
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for the following:
- Recording minutes of all club meetings
- Maintaining a current roster of membership and filing club records
- Organizing and updating the club member points spreadsheet for all events
- Distributing opportunities from the faculty and other club updates to the club via email in coordination with other board members
- Spearheading a spring fundraiser while in term
- Participating in planning and execution of Wildlife University while in term
Webmaster
The Webmaster is responsible for the following:
- Post a minimum of 3 Instagram posts per month
- Compilation of articles, planning, design, and circulation of the NTS newsletter
- Maintaining the NTS Publish Illinois website (incoordination with the President) updated with current board members, relevant zoological medicine opportunities, events, and other related news
- Maintaining the member email listserv
- Planning and execution of one lecture per semester
- Participating in planning and execution of Wildlife University while in term
National Association Officers
AAV (Avian) Chair
The AAV Chair is responsible for the following:
- Demonstrating an enthusiasm for advancing the veterinary care of all avian species including wild, companion, and captive
- Planning and execution of lectures and wet labs for students wishing to learn the best medical care, surgical care, and advance welfare for these species within their allotted annual budget
- Maintaining our status as a student chapter of the Association of Avian Veterinarians and sharing membership benefits with the student body
- Includes pursuing sponsorship opportunities for club events
- Must also provide updated AAV student membership requirements to Webmaster annually (before Q1) to update our website
- Participating in planning and execution of Wildlife University while in term
- Providing one newsletter article or activity per quarter minimum
AAZV (Zoo) Chair
The AAZV chair is responsible for the following:
- Demonstrating an enthusiasm for advancing the veterinary care of all zoo species including ex-situ and in-situ populations
- Planning and execution of lectures and wet labs for students wishing to learn the best medical care, surgical care, and advance welfare for these species within their allotted annual budget
- Maintaining our status as a student chapter of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians and sharing membership benefits with the student body
- Includes pursuing sponsorship opportunities for club events
- Must also provide updated AAZV student membership requirements to Webmaster annually (before Q1) to update our website
- Participating in planning and execution of Wildlife University while in term
- Providing one newsletter article or activity per quarter minimum
AEMV (Exotic Companion Mammal) Chair
The AEMV chair is responsible for the following:
- Demonstrating an enthusiasm for advancing the veterinary care of all exotic companion mammals
- Planning and execution of lectures and wet labs for students wishing to learn the best medical care, surgical care, and advance welfare for these species within their allotted annual budget
- Maintaining our status as a student chapter of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and sharing membership benefits with the student body
- Includes pursuing sponsorship opportunities for club events
- Must also provide updated AEMV student membership requirements to Webmaster annually (before Q1) to update our website
- Participating in planning and execution of Wildlife University while in term
- Providing one newsletter article or activity per quarter minimum
ARAV (Reptile & Amphibian) Chair
The ARAV chair is responsible for the following:
- Demonstrating an enthusiasm for advancing the veterinary care of all reptile and amphibian species including wild, companion, and captive
- Planning and execution of lectures and wet labs for students wishing to learn the best medical care, surgical care, and advance welfare for these species within their allotted annual budget
- Maintaining our status as a student chapter of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians and sharing membership benefits with the student body
- Includes pursuing sponsorship opportunities for club events
- Must also provide updated ARAV student membership requirements to Webmaster annually (before Q1) to update our website
- Participating in planning and execution of Wildlife University while in term
- Providing one newsletter article or activity per quarter minimum
