Midwest International Economic Development Conference
Welcome to the MWIEDC 2025!
In the spring of 2025, the Department of Agricultural & Consumer Economics and the Department of Economics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will host the 22nd Midwest International Economic Development Conference (MWIEDC). The conference will take place from March 28 – 29, 2025, in the Illini Union, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in Urbana, Illinois. The conference will commence on Friday morning and will conclude after lunch on Saturday.
We invite you, and any other interested faculty and graduate students in your department or elsewhere, to submit a paper to present at the conference. Papers on any topic related to international economic development are welcome. Submissions for an entire session (of 3 or 4 papers) are also welcome.
The deadline for submissions is January 8, 2025, and only full paper submissions will be reviewed. You will be notified by the first week of February whether your paper has been accepted.

Keynote Speaker

Mushfiq Mobarak is a Professor of Management and Economics at Yale University and the founder of the Yale Research Initiative on Innovation and Scale (Y-RISE). He conducts field experiments in countries such as Bangladesh, Sierra Leone, and Nepal, focusing on the promotion of welfare-enhancing innovations and behaviors and the scaling of effective development interventions. His research has been covered by major global media outlets and published in the most prestigious journals across disciplines such as Science, Nature, Econometrica, American Economic Review, BMJ, Nature: Medicine, Review of Economic Studies, American Political Science Review, Marketing Science, Demography, and more. He received a Carnegie Fellowship in 2017 and was named to Vox’s list of 50 scientists building a better future in 2022.
