Music and Performing Arts Library

Located within the Music Building, the MPAL is a fully staffed library that serves the specific needs of the School of Music, the Department of Dance and the Department of Theater. It is part of the University Library system at the University of Illinois, one of the largest university library systems in the world.

Sousa Archives and Center for American Music

Located on the second floor of the A.A. Harding Band Building, the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music contains many resources that are made available to researchers in American Music. Of particular interest is the extensive collection of Sousa documents, scores and other artifacts.

Musicology and Ethnomusicology Collections

Of particular interest to musicologists are the Renaissance Archives, the Hymn Tune Index, the Ethnomusicology Archive.

Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education (CRME)

The Bulletin is a peer-reviewed journal that contains research, and reviews of books of interest to the
international music education profession. It provides an outlet for scholarly publication and is one of
music education’s leading publications.

Public Engagement Library

Commonly known as the ISYM Library, this collection contains band, orchestra and choral music (scores and parts) for the use of music education students. Selections used by the ensembles at Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM) are often drawn from this library. This library also includes many chamber music selections appropriate for junior and senior high level players.

Choral/Orchestral Library

The performing edition libraries of the School of Music Orchestra Division and Choral Division. Materials are non-circulating, but may be made available for study by appointment.
