Welcome

This website presents the new TransAtlantic Collaboration on the ‘Rebel Counties’ of Mining Heritage in the UK (Nottinghamshire, Durham) and Illinois (Macoupin, Christian). The goal of this project is to undertake a comparative study of coal mining cultural heritage “across the Big Pond”. The project will produce academic and popular articles, physical and virtual exhibits, and the two corresponding websites (one of which you are reading). The project builds on the reputation of the participating members as centers of excellence for industrial heritage research.
.

The collaboration involves heritage scholars, practitioners and consultants from the University of Illinois, Mine2Minds (Notts/East Midlands), Nottingham Trent University, and the University of Cambridge.
