The University fire truck served as an ambulance and delivery cart during the scarlet fever epidemic, ensuring that students requiring isolation were quarantined in a timely manner.

1919-1947 Ambulatory Care Facility

The Isolation Hospital was located at the end of Sixth Street, and was originally the office for the Department of Horticulture. Built in 1908, it was renovated in 1914 to serve as the isolation hospital for scarlet fever and again in 1917 to act as the emergency hospital during the influenza epidemic.

Ward D of the emergency hospital, also called the tool shed or the stables. This building was erected near the isolation hospital when additional bed capacity was needed during the influenza epidemic.
