    • Student Health Service is Born 
  • 1918
    • Influenza epidemic during WWI 
    • Addition of Ward D to Emergency Hospital, and use of several dormitory and Greek buildings as additional wards 
    • William B. McKinley donates money to the University with stipulation for immediately erecting a hospital; this stipulation loosened due to wartime restraints 
  • 1919
    • Student Health Services moves to President’s House 
  • 1924
    • Cornerstone laid for McKinley Hospital Building 
  • 1920s-30s
    • Scarlet fever outbreaks and quarantines occur regularly on campus; between 10-20 quarantines mandated per year 
  • 1939
    • South Wing added to McKinley Hospital 
  • 1941
    • Student Health Services moves to Davenport House 
  • 1944
    • Hospital and Medical Service Fee assessed on all students in Urbana to prepay for medical services  
  • 1959
    • Mental Health Services offered 
  • 1962
    • West addition to McKinley Hospital finished, University Health Service moves in

    • Dental health exams offered to all new staff and students 
  • 1968
    • Flu pandemic (“Hong Kong flu”)

    • Experimental rabies vaccine distributed to 1,400 Vet students, no serious side effects

    • Accredited as Ambulatory Care Center

    • Voluntary Measles inoculations after outbreaks in Indiana

    • Family Planning Clinic renamed to Gynecology Clinic 
  • 1985
    • 3-year renovation project begins; clinics remain open 
    • ER changed to 24 hour Acute Care/Injury Clinic

    • Walk-in clinic established 
    • Dial-A-Nurse program begins

    • Rededication following completion of $4.5 million renovation

    • First satellite service opens: Health Resource Center at the Illini Union 
    • Cold Comfort Center and Wound Care Center established

    • SportWell Clinic established at the IMPE 
    • Meningitis outbreak on campus; 17,000 immunized within 3 days 
    • Major building and technology upgrades to keep up with the times: Baker Cell dispensing system for Pharmacy, electric exam tables, new x-ray machine and chemistry analyzer, new computers, printers, and fax machines

    • “Finals stress packs” program begins

    • Implemented Electronic Health Record system 
  • 2007
    • MyMcKinley launches, allowing for scheduling appointments and refilling prescriptions online

    • Completed scanning paper medical records and computerized the order entry system

    • Installation of digital radiography 
    • Preparation for H1N1 influenza epidemic
      • Mass distribution exercise in Assembly Hall 
      • Established ILI (Influenza-like illness) clinic to care for H1N1 symptoms 
      • 5,758 H1N1 vaccines administered, 7,940 flu vaccines

    • Implemented Parata Max Pharmacy Robot, reducing risk of pharmacy errors 
    • Building restoration project 
    • Medicat Electronic Health Record implemented

    • Mumps outbreak and mass vaccination, 12,222 vaccinated

    • Launched new website and Wellness Guide App

    • POD (Point of Distribution) exercise to test ability to aid in a pandemic took place at the State Farm Center 
  • 2019
    • Telehealth initiative set to roll out in 2020

    • COVID-19 Pandemic – supported SHIELD campus-wide saliva testing program through integration with EHR 
    • Recruited local professionals to administer over 17,400 COVID-19 vaccines 
    • Adapted to isolation measures while continuing to provide health services to the campus 
  • 2021
    • First remote vending machine installed at Ikenberry Commons, dispensing Health Resource Center and over-the-counter products 
    • Added pronouns and preferred names to online healthcare portal 
    • Healthy Illini Podcast begins

    • Narcan available at MHC and remote locations
