The research at the Illinois Initiative for Engineering Next Generation Medical Systems focuses on advanced robotic surgery and minimizing complications and mortality rates resulting from preventable medical errors in hospital intensive care units. We plan to do that by using augmented reality  and safe knives to create a more secure environment during surgery, as well as creating a patient response feedback system to reduce medical errors in ICUs. We are also working on an automated information processing system to help facilitate earlier and more accurate diagnosis of complex syndromes.
