Teaching Education Minor in Secondary School Teaching

Are you doing a major in Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Math, History or English? Earn an Bachelor’s degree in LAS and a license to teach grades 9-12 in Illinois! Discover theĀ Teacher Education Minor in Secondary School Teaching.


Meet with your content advisor to determine appropriate coursework. Maintain a 2.5 or higher cumulative and major GPA. Major or professional education courses with C- or lower must be retaken with a higher grade before licensure.

Testing Requirements:

Before applying to the Secondary Education Minor, you must take ONE of three tests: The Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP) or the ACT Plus Writing (composite score 22 or higher; combined English/Writing 19 or higher0 or the SAT (composite score 1030 or higher; writing 450 or higher).

Tutoring Requirement:

50 hours of tutoring with middle school or high school students before entering the minor.
