Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll was immensely popular in the late 19th century. Visitors to the Yellowstone National Park from the eastern United States must have felt as if they had fallen down a rabbit hole when they viewed the strange landscapes of the Park. “Wonderland” was part of the Northern Pacific Railroad’s promotional campaign for its route between Saint Paul, Minnesota and Yellowstone National Park.
