Anne Tyler wins the 2012 Sunday Times Award for Literary Excellence

Novelist Anne Tyler has been named the winner of the Sunday Times Award for Literary Excellence.

Since 1964, Tyler has been writing stories of the inner lives of characters under the pressures of family and modern life. Some of her more famous works include Breathing Lessons (winner of the 1989 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction), The Accidental Tourist, Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, and Earthly Possessions. The publication of Tyler’s new novel The Beginner’s Goodbye in early April will coincide with the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival, where the award ceremony will take place.
