In 2016, the competition was moved forward to the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. Prior to that year, the dates moved each year. For good measure a list is kept of prior year dates going back to 2011 to help teams with planning prior to the release of the current year’s competition dates. Team members should be aware of upcoming MPRE test dates that tend to fall close to when the competition will be held. We recommended taking the test in March or August (instead of November) if possible.

RE: Regional Rules
Regional Rules typically come out the week the problem is released, although a few years they have been up to 7-10 days late. Note that Regional Rules are basically an addendum to the NYCB rules and are rules for the region you are in only.
Participating School’s in our Regional (Region 10)
In 2024 the University of Illinois will be moving from Region 8 to Region 10 per NYCB regional redistribution to create regions that are more equal in size. We do not know at this time if our new regional will allowe for one or two teams per school. Our teams are comprised of 2-3 competitors with a preference for a 3-competitor team.

Basic Information Regarding Regional and National Competition Dates
Regional and National Competitions
The Competition consists of regional and national rounds. Each team is initially assigned to a particular region and regional sponsors administer the regional rounds under supervision from committees of the New York City Bar and the ACTL.
Regional rounds occur in mid-to-late November. The first and second place teams from each region will advance to the National Finals, taking place at the New York City Bar in late January or early February. (Please note, however, that only one team from any given school may advance to the National Finals. Therefore, if two teams from the same school place first and second in the Regional rounds, the first and third place teams will advance to the National Finals.)
