1. Can a third team member who is not arguing in the round at all keep time?
A: Yes, anyone who is affiliated with your team who is not standing at the podium arguing can keep time. We phrased that rule only to prevent advocates from keeping time for themselves as they argue.
2. Can we keep time using our ordinary time indicators?
A: Yes, you can keep time with any time indicators you have used in practice (I will have a very limited number of time cards that give 5 minutes, 2 minutes, 1 minute, and Stop).
Also, please have a government-issued ID for entry into the Daley Center. You may also need it for the security desk at Corboy and Demetrio, but they are planning to use email/cell phone numbers to give you remote access to their elevator bank.
Finally, I have attached instructions for bailiffs. This is a really easy job and mostly a formality. The bailiff just has to call the case to order and remind everyone to step out of the room when it’s time for the judges to tabulate their scores, then to come back in when they’re done for feedback. The bailiff instructions allocate the responsibility to a member of the Respondent’s team, but anyone willing to do it can take it over. We have told the judges to expect you to call the case, but in the event they forget and accidentally skip that part, you can just proceed with the round without calling the court to order.
