Anderson Center Seventh Circuit Moot Court Competition

2023 was the inaugural year for the Anderson Center Seventh Circuit Moot Court Competition. This event takes place in Chicago each Spring.

The Kimball R. Anderson and Karen Gatsis Anderson Center for Advocacy and Professionalism at the University of Illinois College of Law offers training in a wide variety of advocacy skills, including trial advocacy, appellate advocacy, negotiations, and alternative dispute resolution while providing College of Law students with innovative classes and programs relating to the professional responsibility obligations attendant to client advocacy. Consistent with the Anderson Center’s mission is the guiding principle that legal professionals must always be professional and ethical in their advocacy. The Anderson Center Seventh Circuit Moot Court Competition explores this critical intersection between advocacy and professionalism by utilizing a unique problem comprised of issues involving both substantive law and professional ethics. This competition is open to all ABA accredited law schools in the Seventh Circuit. Held entirely in Chicago, and in-person, this round-robin competition begins with preliminary rounds. Advancing teams compete in single elimination semifinal and final rounds. To kick off the competition, the Seventh Circuit Bar Association hosts a welcome reception for all competitors, coaches, and judges on the Thursday prior to the start of the event. Teams and coaches are highly encouraged to attend.
