IMPORTANT NOTICE: Team members interested in taking the MPRE during the upcoming academic year should be aware the November date option tends to fall close to, and sometimes even during, the regional competition event. For this reason, team members should plan on taking the MPRE in March or August instead. You can view upcoming test dates here.
SMU-DEDMAN Regional Information
Friday, October 25th:
- All teams will compete in both preliminary rounds in the morning and in the afternoon.
- Each team will compete once per preliminary round.
- In Prelim 1, your team will either compete from 8:50 a.m. – 10:35 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. – 12:20 p.m.
- In Prelim 2, your team will either compete from 2:20 p.m. – 4:05 p.m. or 4:15 p.m. – 5:50 p.m.
- We are still waiting on the ABA to finalize the competition schedule including your assigned times for Friday.
- Following Prelim 2, at 6:30 p.m., we will hold a virtual reception with all teams to announce the four finalists.
- The top four teams according to the Judges’ Scoring Ballots will advance to the final round on Saturday, October 26th.
Saturday, October 26th:
- The four finalists will each compete in a co-championship the morning of October 26th. Each team will compete just once.
- Two finalists will compete from 8:50 a.m. – 10:35 a.m. Two finalists will compete from 10:45 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. Team placement per each slot will be finalized during the virtual reception Friday evening.
Following the final rounds, ending at 12:20 p.m., we will hold a virtual reception with the four finalists to announce the two co-champions advancing to the national competition.
2024 Regional Schedule
ABA Negotiation Competition Basic Information: To advance to upper levels of competition, teams must advance from the current level of competition. At the regional level there are typically twenty-four teams competing. Each team will compete in two preliminary rounds and the top four teams will advance to the final round. The first place team from each regional competition will advance to the National Finals. (Additional invitations may be extended to second place teams if space allows.)
