
Joshua Dees is a PhD candidate in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He received a B.A. in Psychology and Biology from Greenville University in 2013, an M.A. in Linguistics and TESOL from Southern Illinois University in 2016, and an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2021. His research focuses on syntax and its interface with morphology, semantics, and phonology. He is especially interested in the functional structure of the nominal and clausal domains, especially in regard to (in)definiteness and temporality. He has worked on a number of languages including Kazakh, Turkish, Kannada, Polish, and Dholuo.
