Journalists Helped Shape Our History

To agree with Rodger Streitmatter’s book, “Mightier than the Sword,” journalists has played and will continue to play an enormous role in shaping our history. In chapter 17, Streitmatter describes how news media has shaped our views and understanding of historical events. He clearly explains that journalists have the power to display various events in whatever light they feel like. Journalists are in control of their stories and with a credible source behind it, it will make news.
The chapter continues by bringing up some journalists that has played a vital part in how we, as an audience, have viewed different political events. The journalists mentioned were Ida Tarbell, Thomas Paine, William Randolph Hearst, and Margaret Bourke-White. They all did some impressive investigative work that has influenced the path of our history.
A journalist’s job is to record historical events but as Streitmatter explains, they are the ones in control and they therefore play a meaningful role in shaping our history.
