Reflection

Research Proposal:

My only major fix for the research proposal was being specific with what I discussed in the slide “My Research Plan”. Although I stated that my research required both primary and secondary sources, I failed to mention what I was hoping to find in these sources. I fixed this by adding what topics I desired to explore from the sources I found. A minor error that I corrected was including the right publication date for my first source slide. I put the publication date as 1895 when , in reality, it was 1990. I also improved my title by changing it to the title I had on my annotated bibliography which was “Rise of a Dangerous Case: Food Engineering.”

Annotated Bibliography:

An important correction I made on the annotated bibliography was adding 4 more sources. My original document only contained the summary and analysis of 4 sources. I corrected this by adding a brief summary and appropriate analysis of 4 more sources which I pulled from my final research paper. I also fixed the analysis of the source “Safety Assessment of Foods from Genetically Modified Crops in Countries with Developing Economies” because I included content from the article that belonged in the summary paragraph. I fixed this by removing the summary type content and incorporating it into the actual summary paragraph. A final important fix within my annotated bibliography was fixing the citation of the source “Giving Mother Nature a Hand.” In the original citation, I had the wrong volume number and publication date. I found the right volume number and publication date from the digital archive I found this source from and fixed it.

One minor error I corrected was my use of expletive constructions. Sentences that began with “it is”, “there is”, “there are”, etc. were reworded to make them concise and straight to the point. I also improved my word choice for couple sentences. I frequently use the banned word “utilize” because of my natural tendency to make sentences sound fancy/sophisticated. I fixed it by simply using the word “use”.  The final minor error I fixed was grammar/mechanical errors. There were common comma errors, sentence structuring, subject-verb agreement, etc.

Completing this assignment helped me realize the importance of citations and conciseness. Having the proper citation is important because it shows you are a responsible and a credible scholar. Conciseness is equally important because it reveals you can demonstrate the same idea effectively with a much shorter word count. Moving forward, I seek to improve my citations by writing them in the proper format as well as avoiding the use of expletive constructions for conciseness and overall quality of the sentence.
