News Values in NBC Nightly News

I watched the NBC Nightly News on February 10th.

The first news was about Edward Snowden. In this piece of news, it reported that Russia now considered to turn Snowden over to the U.S. as a gift to President Trump. It involved the timeliness and the prominence of the news because it happened recently and was about a widely known person, Edward Snowden.

Another news that revealed the timeliness and the prominence was confirmed by Matt Damon in Today Show on February 10th that, George Clooney was going to have twins in June.

Also, we could see the timeliness and the prominence of the news from the report about today’s meeting between President Trump and Japan’s prime minister in White House.

The human interest of news was shown as well.

In one piece of news that reported the growing fear of undocumented immigrants to be forced out of the country under the president Trump’s immigration enforcement, many undocumented immigrants were interviewed. The children cried and said that they were afraid of family separation.

Another report about giant panda Bao Bao who will be sent back to China for a breeding program also showed the human interest in news. In the interview, the zookeeper and visitors showed their attachment to Bao Bao.

These two pieces of news showed the human interest of news excellent because they caused the audience to have emotion about the news.
