Professor Yuan Yang Appointed as IEEE EMBS 2025 Distinguished Lecturer

Dr. Yuan Yang, Associate Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), has been selected as a 2025 IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) Distinguished Lecturer. This recognition acknowledges his expertise and contributions to the field of biomedical engineering.

The IEEE EMBS Distinguished Lecturers Program provides high-quality speakers to EMBS Chapters and Student Branch Chapters worldwide, helping to share knowledge on the latest trends and developments. Dr. Yang’s research focuses on neural engineering, stroke rehabilitation,  AI-empowered precision medicine, sex differences in aging brains, and chronic pain management. He leads the Illinois-Carle Joint Neural Engineering and Rehabilitation Laboratory and has received funding from major organizations such as the NIH, NSF, and AHA.

As a Distinguished Lecturer, Dr. Yang will give talks on topics including:

  • Nonlinear Connectivity Analysis in Neural Systems – Examining advanced methods for analyzing neural activity and their applications in neuroscience.
  • Engineering-Driven Precision Rehabilitation for Stroke – Discussing new approaches to stroke rehabilitation using brain imaging and non-invasive stimulation techniques.
  • Sex Differences in Aging and Injured Brains – Exploring how sex-related differences affect neurological disorders and rehabilitation outcomes.

Dr. Yang’s selection as a Distinguished Lecturer reflects his contributions to biomedical engineering and his role in advancing research and education in the field.
