JNERL undergraduate researcher Jalen Xu has been selected to receive a Conference Travel Grant from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR). This award provides funding for conference travel and registration fees.
Jalen is a senior undergraduate student in the Neural Engineering program at UIUC and has been a member of JNERL since February 2026. His previous research has involved applying machine learning methods to neural imaging, and his current work focuses on fMRI analysis.
At the upcoming BMES conference, Jalen will present a poster titled “Interhemispheric Sensorimotor Coupling in Hemiparetic Stroke: An Exploratory Study”. The project investigates changes in interhemispheric connectivity associated with post-stroke reorganization using dynamic causal modeling of EEG data. The study aims to provide a mechanistic framework for identifying directed cortical network changes that may be relevant to personalized stroke rehabilitation.
The project is mentored by Rita Huan-Ting Peng and Dr. Yuan Yang.
Congratulations to Jalen on receiving this award and on his upcoming presentation at BMES!
