Dr. Yuan Yang, Associate Professor of Bioengineering, Neuroscience, and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, has been invited to deliver a keynote lecture at the UTHealth Houston Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Grand Rounds – Stroke Rehabilitation and Recovery Research Seminar Series on Friday, November 21, 2025. The event, hosted by the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the NeuroRecovery Research Center at TIRR Memorial Hermann, is part of a continuing medical education (CME) program highlighting leading-edge advances in stroke recovery and neurorehabilitation.
Dr. Yang’s presentation, titled “Non-invasive Brain Stimulation for Precision Rehabilitation After Stroke”, will explore novel neuroengineering approaches designed to enhance post-stroke motor recovery. His talk will focus on the application of High-Definition Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (HD-tDCS) for precision rehabilitation, emphasizing mechanistic understanding, the use of quantitative EEG and TMS to guide individualized treatment, and identification of key clinical outcome measures for assessment. As Director of the Illinois-Carle Joint Neural Engineering and Rehabilitation Laboratory (JNERL), Dr. Yang leads a multidisciplinary research team integrating advanced neuroimaging, brain–computer interfaces, and non-invasive brain stimulation technologies to study and promote neural recovery following brain injury.
His invitation to the Grand Rounds was extended by Dr. Sheng Li, Professor and Vice Chair of Discovery and Advancement at UTHealth Houston and Director of the NeuroRecovery Research Center at TIRR Memorial Hermann. The seminar will take place at TIRR Memorial Hermann, 1333 Moursund Street, Houston, Texas, and will also be livestreamed as part of UTHealth’s CME series.
