Today, we’re featuring first-year student Mariah Tennell who plans to be a Metadata Analyst after she graduates.

Where are you from and what’s your favorite part about it?

I am from Gainesville, FL and it is special to me because of the beautiful beaches.

What is your favorite part about working at the Help Desk?

My favorite part about working at the Help Desk is being able to check-in on courses for technical support. The students and faculty have been extremely wonderful to work with and they really appreciate out help.

Meet the Graduate Assistants: Clelia Sweeney

Today, we’re featuring second-semester-first-year student Clelia Sweeney. When she graduates, she plans to get a job in public librarianship.

Where are you from and what’s your favorite part about it?

I am from West Hartford, Vermont. My favorite thing about Vermont is probably apple-picking in the fall, but it’s hard to choose just one thing. There’s also a weird, remote museum run out of a barn called the Museum of Everyday Life — one of my favorite places ever.

What is your favorite part about working at the Help Desk?

My favorite part about working at the Help Desk so far is my co-workers. Although starting a new job remotely was very daunting, I’ve felt very supported and welcomed.

The book is not always better than the movie.

Discovering how useful my knowledge is as everyone I know starts using Zoom

Now we pull the curtain back a little bit further so that you can get to know them better. Today, we’re featuring second-year student, Dana Queen. When she graduates, she’s ready for any adventure. Her classes have exposed her to numerous opportunities beyond what she first planned on doing after graduation.

Where are you from and what’s your favorite part about it?

I am most recently from Minneapolis, Minnesota. My favorite part was that the Twin Cities have some amazing museums and historical sites.

What is your favorite part about working at the Help Desk?

I love problem-solving and working at the Help Desk certainly gives me some interesting problems to solve. I also absolutely adore the team atmosphere; this is by far the best place I have ever worked, and it makes me dread graduation knowing that I’ll have to leave the team.

When she’s soaked up all the knowledge from the iSchool she’s planning on becoming a youth services librarian in a public library.

Where are you from and what’s your favorite part about it?

I am from New Vienna, Iowa, a super small town with less than 500 people. My favorite part about my hometown is how everyone comes together to support friends and neighbors, and people are always willing to lend a helping hand.

What is your favorite part about working at the Help Desk?

My favorite part about working at the Help Desk are the kind and caring people I work with everyday and helping faculty and students navigate online learning during these unprecedented times!

Where are you from and what’s your favorite part about it?

I’m from Plainfield, IL, one of the southwest suburbs of Chicago. My favorite part about it is not having to live there anymore.

I love our team and I love how supportive everyone is.

Today, we’re featuring first-year student Katie Peterson, who will do something awesome with school librarianship, public librarianship, or museum archiving after she graduates.

Where are you from and what’s your favorite part about it?

I’m from Naperville. My favorite part about living in Naperville was living so close to the Prairie Path network of bike trails. I used to spend my summers exploring them on my bike!

What is your favorite part about working at the Help Desk?

My favorite part of working at the help desk is the satisfying feeling of being able to answer someone’s question and helping them out. 🙂

I’m from Vietnam and my favorite part about it is it has great tropical fruits!

Where are you from and what’s your favorite part about it?

I was born and raised here in Champaign-Urbana. I love the wonderfully brilliant and diverse community and all the great parks!

What is your favorite part about working at the Help Desk?

I love how welcoming and helpful this Help Desk community is. Everyone has been so inclusive and kind. I know I am safe asking questions that someone will jump right in to kindly help! (They also treat patrons this way which is wonderful!) It is a team I feel proud to be joining because of their great well-earned reputation.

Today, we’re featuring soon be graduate Matthew Byrd, who is hoping to work at a public library in Chicagoland.

Where are you from and what’s your favorite part about it?

I am from the North Side of Chicago and currently live in the city’s Rogers Park neighborhood. I don’t get to do much of it now due to COVID-19, but my absolute favorite part of living in Chicago is being able to take the train or bus or walk into any neighborhood in the city and find something unexpected or that you’d never seen before.

What is your favorite part about working at the Help Desk?

I love helping solve problems and making the work of iSchool faculty, staff, and students as smooth as possible by doing so.
